Sledding
is a favorite winter activity that is popular with young and old alike. From children sliding down a snow covered hill on a plastic disk to the Winter Olympics, sledding is enjoyed by nearly everyone. Types of sleds include the bobsled, or bobsleigh, skeleton and luge. Other related activities include dog sledding, snowboarding, snowmobiling, ice-blocking and lava sledding. As a precaution, keep in mind that the nature of sledding (high speed, uncontrollable sleds, and often a hazardous environment) leads to a large number of injuries. Between 23,000 to 45,000 sledding injuries require medical treatment each year in the United States.
